Specific Education, Certification and Skill Requirements (if applicable):
Organized, highly motivated, energetic, self-starter with relationship building skills
Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician’s Assistant
Has a minimum of one year, full-time clinical post-graduate experience
Certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner and member of the International Association of Forensic
Nurses, or willingness to complete the 40-hour SANE training and become a member of IAFN
Experience performing pelvic exams preferred, but not required

Job Description:
The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) has the responsibility to respond to any one of our nine participating hospitals in Westchester County to provide direct-services to victims of sexual assault, ages 12 and older.  The SANE provides immediate, specialized, patient-centered medical care to these patients and performs comprehensive forensic medical examinations, including evidence collection, health-related education, and referrals; the SANE/SAFE may also be called to testify in court as an expert witness regarding the quality of the evidence he/she collects, documentation, and the preservation and custody of physical evidence.  The SANE/SAFE utilizes an interdisciplinary approach through collaboration with hospital staff, advocates, law enforcement, and the DA’s office.  The SANE/SAFE will also attend mandatory continuing education trainings and case review meetings. 

Requirements:
Current medical license; Computer literate; Licensed driver and car owner; Current malpractice insurance; Persons of color, members of LGBTQ communities and bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.  VAS/WestCOP is an EOE.

Other Information About This Job:
SANEs/SAFEs will provide on-call services for at least four full shifts a month (shifts are weekdays and weekends, 8a.m.-5p.m. or 5p.m.-8a.m.) and commit to the program for a minimum of one year.  There is no on-call pay; however, for each case a SANE/SAFE responds to, he/she will receive a stipend.
