An assessment is thoroughly done on everyone walking through our doors no matter what the presenting problem is that brought them to OCAP, The presenting problem is addressed and a Plan is put in place to help ensure that we are teaching people to become self sufficient. Kid Cafe: Servicing adolescence 13-18. Adolescence and their family are assessed to determine what the needs of the adolescence and family are. A plan is developed to address the needs of the family and the adolescence. The adolescent is tested to determine what the basic skills are, tutoring is provided to ensure that weak academic skills are addressed. The adolescence is part of a drama group where they write their own material based on what social issues they are facing, and perform the work that they write, the purpose of this activity is to increase reading and writing skills and also help with conflict resolution. They are also a part of a book club where the goal is to read a book a month.. Starting in the September the adolescence will be served a neutrinos meal. Heating Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) - This seasonal program assists the income-eligible not card for by the Westchester County Department of Social Services or the Office for the Aging to apply for the obtain Federal benefits which will help them pay utility bills. H.E.A.P. assures that some of our neediest residents won't be "out in the cold"! Youth Employment and Training Program - Offers job preparation, interview training, resume writing, application services, career and educational counseling. Youth who would otherwise be at risk for conflicts with the legal system, drug usage, or cessation of their educational path are guided toward programs providing structure, discipline, and healthy recreational activities. They know "the door is always open ," and some will be three for them, if only just to listen! Advocacy and Referral -Advocating for our clients whatever the needs are. We enjoy good relationship with many other agencies that our clients are referred to for services. Car Donation Program. Eviction Prevention - Helps a family that are facing eviction retain their home. Back-to-school-Clothing - Program provides back to school clothing for children who meets the income criteria. Parents submits a list of the children sizes and things like their favorite color and the performance in clothing. Children up to the age 12 is shopped for. Teenagers are allowed to go shop for themselves. Toys for Tots Christmas Wish List Camp Scholarships Swim Scholarships On-call food pantry - OCAP has access to food on an emergency basis. However, food is distributed by OCAP two times a month. Fresh Produce is distributed two times a month as well as meat and other items. Meat-Coop - People are able to purchase about $80.00 worth of mean for $25.00 on a monthly basis. There are also monthly specials.
